How it works

What is a public IP?

A public IP uniquely identifies your device on the internet. This tool shows the address you are connecting from and whether it is IPv4 or IPv6.

IPv4 vs IPv6

IPv4 uses a 32-bit address (e.g. 192.168.1.1); IPv6 uses a 128-bit address (e.g. 2001:db8::1), providing a far larger address space.

IPv4 or IPv6

The address shown is the one your connection actually used: dual-stack networks usually show their IPv6, IPv4-only networks show their IPv4.

Use cases

Network diagnostics, IP allowlists, proxy configuration, firewall rules and CDN setup — anywhere you need your exact public IP.

Privacy

This tool only reads and displays your IP address; geolocation is served from an embedded offline database (IP Geolocation by DB-IP) and your IP is not stored or logged.
